Library collections are continually evolving to meet the needs of communities and to support the missions, goals, and objectives of libraries. Library collections can be general collections that include a broad selection of materials on all subjects or subject-specific collections that focus on a specific subject or discipline. Some libraries also have special collections of rare materials or items of historical value, and they are digitizing these materials and making them available in digital special collections. All libraries develop and manage their collections to keep them relevant and maintained for future use. Current issues include transitioning to electronic materials, pricing models and restrictions for electronic materials, and long-term retention of materials. Another issue is censorship of library materials and the growing number of book challenges happening in public and school librires . Despite these issues, libraries and their collections will endure and grow, and they will continue to provide ideas, knowledge, art, music, and literature to the people and communities they serve
The IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations) defines Collection Development as the "ongoing assessments of the information needs of library clientele, using statistics,analysis and demographic projections. This includes researching new and popular books and authors, reading reviews, listening to the special collections include rare books,manuscripts, Papers,Clothing and other items that are of unique value and importance to the study of material culture,history,literature other subjects.
